Another milestone reached

It's a sad time for me today as I have found I am not able to drive my son to school on our little pedal tricycle any more. I have enjoyed driving him to school ever since he started, five years ago, but the last few times I have found it affects my heart too much, as there are a couple of steep bridges to cross and his present school is further away than the others have been. So this is another milestone in my life.

I can still drive my tricycle, if there is no-one else on it; I do the household shopping every day and go into the town for any necessities; but driving with a heavy load I will not try any more. So Sanny, our willing and loyal helper, will drive Claude to school and maybe I will go with him. Claude is just a bit too young to negotiate the crowded roads on a bicycle with a heavy school bag ; maybe next year or the year after he will be able to cycle to school.

  1. Seems you and Claude have a different road to travel for now, Malcolm. It will be good if you can at least go along for awhile. I would guess that would make you both happier. I remember when you first made the decision to move Claude to the new school -- the distance from home, was a big question and potential drawback. I hadn't realized that it would turn out to be an issue in quite THIS way. Perhaps none of you did either... I do think you are right. He seems very young to be negotiating the trip alone. I am glad that Sanny is willing and able to help him get to school safely.

    Hugs, sue

  3. Yes, either Rose or I will go with Claude to school. Claude could go on a public tricycle (called a pedicab, a descriptive name) that is the standard public transport in this town. But I think it best for the time being if one of us goes with him, Sanny can drive the tricycle with three people and a lot of luggage on board, he's young and strong and enjoys exerting himself to the utmost! Perhaps we will let Claude use a public tricycle sometimes if he wants to, that would be educational too as he is still a bit shyer than most of finding his own way in the world.

Anissa, you are too complimentary, I fear. But I value you appearances on my blog, your life is very interesting to me.
